The Lourdes men's soccer team found itself in an early hole on Wednesday afternoon as Madonna claimed an 8-1 victory over the Gray Wolves at Wildcat Stadium in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action.
Â
The Crusaders (12-3 overall, 7-1 WHAC) scored early and often in the contest to take control. Four first half goals from Yuri Farkas gave Madonna control of the scoreboard as it held a 4-1 lead heading into the intermission.
Â
Less than a minute after Farkas tallied his fourth goal of the match, senior
Brett Chasnick (West Bloomfield, Mich./Harrison) found fellow senior
Reece Riccardi (Jupiter, Fla./Suncoast) to help Lourdes pull within 4-1 at the intermission.
Â
Rodrigo Sigueira tallied a hat-trick in the second half for Madonna, scoring the first three goals of the second stanza to put Madonna ahead 7-1. A late Crusader goal would seal the 8-1 victory.
Â
Freshmen
Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fontainebleau (La.)) and
Garrett Baxley (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood) each tallied four saves defensively for the Gray Wolves.
The Crusaders won the shot battle by a 24-11 margin and edged Lourdes in corner kicks, 7-6.
