Late Goal Propels Concordia to 3-2 Victory Over Lourdes

A fierce second half rally by the Lourdes women's soccer team fell just short on Wednesday afternoon as it dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to Concordia at Wildcat Stadium.

Concordia (8-3-2 overall, 7-3-1 WHAC) tallied its first goal of the evening in the 25th minute of play, as Samantha Golchuk scored following a deflected corner kick. From there, the Gray Wolf defense held strong to take at 1-0 deficit into the intermission.

Shortly after the kickoff of the second stanza, the Cardinal offense struck again, putting them ahead 2-0 with just over one minute elapsed in the second half.

The Gray Wolf offense began their second half rally in the 57th minute as Lana Bell (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne/Gannon) took advantage of a Concordia foul and found the back of the net on a free kick with a 30-yard dart.

In the 70th minute of competition, Erin Caldwell (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) continued to keep momentum in Lourdes' favor, scoring on a shot from the far right wing to knot the game at 2-2.

With less than 45 seconds remaining in the contest, Concordia's Samantha Golchuk was able to sneak a ball into the goal and climb ahead 3-2 to claim the victory.

Kiley Transit (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak) continued her stellar play in the net, stopping eight Cardinal shots.

Concordia won the shot battle by a 23-7 margin and controlled the corner kick battle by a 6-2 mark.

The Gray Wolves (4-10-2 overall, 1-8-1 WHAC) will conclude the 2018 campaign on Saturday afternoon as it celebrates its seniors during a pre-match Senior Day ceremony, and hosts Siena Heights at Wildcat Stadium at 12 p.m. in part of a double header with the men's soccer team.
