The Lourdes men's soccer team concluded its 2018 regular season in style, defeating Siena Heights 1-0 on Saturday afternoon as it celebrated Senior Day at Wildcat Stadium.
The Gray Wolves honored seniors
Nitram Senderos (Cartersville, Ga./Cartersville/Carl Sandburg),
Riley Hogan (Pelham, Ala./Indian Springs) and
Brett Chasnick (West Bloomfield, Mich./Harrison) during a pre-match ceremony for their contributions to the Gray Wolf men's soccer program over the years.
"I'm proud of the way this team fought," said head coach Barry Spitzer. "This was a great way to send out the seniors. I thought we had a lot of energy and played some of the best soccer in the second half today that we have played all year. This was a great win for these guys."
Senderos was the hero for the Gray Wolves, scoring his team-leading fourth goal of the season following a deflected shot from
Olawole Ogunsanya (Dallas, Texas/Arlington) and scoring what would prove to be the game-winner for Lourdes.
From there, the Gray Wolf defense ensured the victory, holding the visiting Saints (6-10-1 overall, 3-6-1 WHAC) scoreless as they went on to win, 1-0.
The tandem of freshmen
Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fontainebleau (La.)) and
Garrett Baxley (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood) posted the fourth clean sheet of the year for the Lourdes defense, piling up 10 saves between the two.
Despite being outshot 23-10 in the contest, the four shots on frame for Lourdes proved to be enough. Siena Heights held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Gray Wolves (3-12-1 overall, 2-8-1 WHAC) will await the results of the remaining Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests to be played this evening and early next week to determine their fate and see if they qualify for this season's WHAC Tournament.
