Lourdes saw its 2018 season come to an end on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves fell to Madonna in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals 25-20, 26-24, 19-25, 25-18 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

The third-seeded Gray Wolves hit just .114 for the match, committing 29 attack errors, 14 of which were into Crusader blocks.
Â
"We made too many errors at the wrong time," head coach
Greg Reitz said after the match. "We gave away more than a set's worth of points in hitting errors. We didn't swing for kills late in sets, instead we swung tentatively."
Â
Madonna, the tournament's sixth seed, raced out to a 9-3 lead in the opening set and never trailed while building the early advantage. Lourdes closed to within two, 20-18, late in the set, but back-to-back errors allowed the Crusaders to retain control.
Â
The Gray Wolves led nearly the entire second set, jumping in front 12-6 and built an 18-9 lead. Madonna used a 6-1 run to claw back and eventually tied things up at 22. Lourdes had a set point at 24-23 before the Crusaders scored three straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Â
Lourdes kept its season alive in the third. Trailing 15-13, the Gray Wolves scored four straight points to pull in front, and closed the set with another 4-0 run to earn the win.
Â
In the fourth, Madonna went on a 9-1 spurt to build a 12-5 advantage. The Gray Wolves tried to battle back, pulling within one three times, the final one coming at 16-15, but the Crusaders answered with six points of their own to secure the win.
