Men’s Basketball Falls Behind Early, Drops 99-72 Decision at No. 9 Cornerstone

The Lourdes men's basketball team fell behind early and struggled to find traction as it fell at No. 9 Cornerstone 99-72 inside Mol Arena on Saturday afternoon.
 
Lourdes struggled to get out of the gate, falling behind 22-2 just under seven minutes into the contest. The Gray Wolves started just 1-of-9 from the field during that opening stretch.
 
After falling behind 28-9, Lourdes used a 14-4 run capped off by a three-pointer from Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) off a steal and assist from Deuce Martin (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview) to climb within 32-23 with 6:45 remaining in the first half.
 
Cornerstone (10-3, 4-0 WHAC) would use a 10-2 run from there to regain control and push its lead to 42-25 with 4:27 left in the first half. The Golden Eagles would hit a three-pointer as time expired in the first half to take a 55-31 lead into the break.
 
Lourdes fell behind 62-33 early on in the second half, but used a 12-0 run finished off by a layup from Kadeim Jones (Dayton, Ohio/Marshall) cut the lead to 62-45 with 15:25 left in the contest.
 
The hosts would once again take control of the contest, using a 19-2 run to take a commanding 81-47 lead with just over ten minutes remaining in the game.
 
The Gray Wolves struggled to gain any more ground as Cornerstone went on to win, 99-72.
 
Jones led the way offensively for Lourdes with 21 points, while Lauf added 10 points.
 
Lourdes finished 27-of-65 (41.5%) from the field, including 10-of-23 (43.5%) from three-point range. Cornerstone shot 36-of-57 (53.7%) from the field and 16-of-31 (51.6%) from three-point land.
 
The Gray Wolves (6-5, 0-4) return to action in the WHAC on Wednesday as they travel to Siena Heights for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
