The Lourdes men's basketball team picked up its fourth consecutive victory on Friday evening, defeating Kent State-Tuscarawas 82-43 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"I thought we played unselfish basketball tonight," said head coach
Josh Gibson following the victory. "I was happy with how we shared the ball and our play on the defensive side tonight. Coming back from Christmas break there was definitely some rust. Hopefully we see some of that rust fall off tomorrow in our last non-conference game before we get back into WHAC play."
Bryce McComb (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton) picked up where he left off when the two teams last met, nailing his opening three pointer to score the contests first bucket and hitting his first two shots behind the arc.
Lourdes used a quick 6-0 run midway through the first half capped off by a fast break layup by
Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) to force a Kent State-Tuscarawas (2-10 overall) to call a timeout. The Gray Wolves would score the next four points out of the timeout to take a 19-8 lead with 12:50 left in the first half.
Holding the advantage late in the half, Lourdes used a 17-2 run to close the half and take a commanding 43-20 lead into the break. During that run,
Desmond Frazier (Ocala, Fla./Dunnellon) and
Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) combined for four three-point field goals, including a buzzer-beating three from Snow to fuel Lourdes.
After the teams exchanged multiple buckets to open the second half, a jumper from
Kadeim Jones (Dayton, Ohio/Marshall) sparked a 13-3 run as Lourdes extended its lead to 63-30 with 13:15 left in the contest.
The Gray Wolves continued to separate from the visitors as they went on the claim the 82-43 victory.
Snow notched his sixth double-double of the season on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the floor, tallying 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the victory. Jones netted 13 points and Lauf added 12 points for the Gray Wolf offense.
Lourdes outscored the Golden Eagles in fast break points by a 20-2 margin, and outrebounded KSU-Tuscarawas 46-26.
The Gray Wolves finished 31-of-56 (55.4%) from the field and sunk 10 three-point field goals, while the Golden Eagles finished 17-of-58 from the floor and hit six three-pointers.
The Gray Wolves (10-6) return to the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center tomorrow afternoon and host Akron Wayne at 3 p.m. to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.
