Lourdes saw its 2017-2018 season come to a close on Senior Day Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves dropped an 82-63 decision to Rochester (Mich.) inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Prior to the game Lourdes honored its lone senior,
Malik Thurman (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins H.S.).
"We were fortunate to have Malik in our program for two years," head coach
Josh Gibson said after the game. "He's a model student-athlete who's a great player and kid both on and off the court. I want to thank him for his contributions to the program and look forward to the success that awaits him in the future."
The Gray Wolves fell behind 14-2 in the first six minutes of the game. A 9-0 run, capped by back-to-back layups from
Trent Bond (Toledo, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) pulled Lourdes to within two, 24-22, with 4:40 to play. The two schools then began trading three-pointers, with five makes in six trips up and down the court.
Bryce McComb's (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) last triple made it 29-28 with 3:26 to play before halftime. Rochester finished the half on an 11-2 run before the break to build a 43-32 lead at intermission.
Lourdes was never able to get its deficit below nine in the second half. A triple by
Deuce Martin (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview H.S.) made it 53-44 Warriors with 13:40 to play before the guests scored six unanswered points. Another 10-0 run late in the contest pushed the margin over 20 before the Gray Wolves scored nine straight points in the final two minutes themselves.
McComb made six triples in the game and finished with 20 points while Thurman added 12 for the Gray Wolves in his collegiate finale.
Justin Nafso led Rochester (16-14, 10-10) with 20 points while Anton Lucaj added 19 points off the bench, making 6-of-8 from three-point range.
Lourdes season comes to a close with a 10-19 record overall and 3-17 win Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.
