Lourdes closed out the 2017-2018 season on Saturday afternoon celebrating Senior Day at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center, but Rochester (Mich.) spoiled the festivities with an 82-62 victory over the Gray Wolves.
Â
Prior to tip Lourdes honored
Tatyana Reynolds (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) and
Sara Pribonic (Johnstown, Ohio/Northridge H.S.) for their service to the program over the course of their careers.
Â
The Gray Wolves kept the game close throughout the first half. Despite falling behind 12-3 in the game's first three minutes, Lourdes was able to utilize a 9-0 run to pull within two, 16-14, following a
Jami Hardy (Perrysburg, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) jumper with two minutes to play in the opening quarter.
Â
Rochester led by three entering the second, and immediately pushed the lead to seven. Again Lourdes clawed back, taking the lead on a pair of free throws by
Daija Stafford (Louisville, Ky./Moore H.S.) before falling behind 33-32 at the break.
Â
The Warriors scored the first 11 points of the second half, holding the Gray Wolves scoreless for more than four minutes while building a double figure advantage. Lourdes was able to cut its deficit to nine, 55-46, a minute into the final period before a 10-1 run allowed Rochester to pull away.Â
Â
"We played a great first half but unfortunately committed too many defensive mishaps in the third quarter which allowed Rochester too many uncontested shots," head coach Summer Quesenberry said following the game.
Â
Reynolds, playing in her final collegiate game, led Lourdes with 19 points while
Jami Hardy added 10.Â
Sydney Miller (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake H.S.) chipped in nine points and
Kali Hardy (Perrysburg, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added eight more.
Â
Lourdes shot just 28.9% from the floor while Rochester connected at a 50.8% clip for the afternoon. The Warriors also held a 57-35 rebounding advantage.
Â
Maddy Valko led five players in double figures for Rochester (17-11, 12-8 WHAC) with 18 points while Bethany McCord added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Â
"Our season came to an end today, but I am proud of the foundation our team built this year and am very confident this team will find success next season," Quesenberry concluded.
Â
Lourdes set a school record for victories in 2017-2018, finishing the year 10-18 overall and 4-16 in WHAC play.
