Lourdes opened up the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season on Saturday evening, dropping a 17-7 decision to sixth-ranked Indiana Tech at Wildcat Stadium.

"I think we played really hard tonight and I was proud of the way they hustled after ground balls," head coach
Alyssa Shaver said after the game. "Our goal was to have more ground balls, and we did."

Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) was involved in all seven goals for the Gray Wolves, scoring five and assisting on the other two. She now has a team-leading 43 tallies on the year.

Long's second tally in the first four minutes of the game evened the contest at two before Sam Vikstrom put Indiana Tech in front for good with 25:03 remaining in the first half, the first of three straight goals for the Warriors. Long's third of the game was the only interrupts in an 8-1 Indiana Tech run that put the visitors in front 10-3 heading into the final minutes of the opening half.

Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) scored with 1:06 to play before halftime for Lourdes only to see the Warriors answer 26 seconds later and take an 11-4 lead into the locker room.

Lourdes was unable to cut its deficit any closer than six during the second half, as Long scored twice and
Hannah Cullis (Fort Worth, Texas/Central H.S.) contributed the other goal.

Bailey Childs, Kristina Scott, and Mackenzie Barnes all scored four times for Indiana Tech (8-2, 1-0 WHAC) in the win.

The Warriors outshot Lourdes 35-21 for the game, including 29-18 on goal.Â
Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) made 12 saves for the Gray Wolves while Sydney Davis stopped 11 shots that she saw for Indiana Tech.

Lourdes held a 24-19 edge in ground balls, led by five from Cullis and four each from Ketteman and
Brianna Budd (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula H.S.). Indiana Tech held a 17-9 edge in draw controls.

Lourdes (6-3, 0-1) will step out of WHAC play on Tuesday evening to begin a two-game road trip, heading to North Canton, Ohio to face Walsh. The opening draw is set for 5 p.m. at Vasco Field.
