Tenth-ranked Lourdes went on the road Monday evening, and knocked off fourth-ranked Saint Ambrose 25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 28-26 inside of Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport, Iowa for the Gray Wolves' second victory of the season over the Fighting Bees.

The win over Saint Ambrose marks the highest ranked opponent the Gray Wolves have ever defeated in program history. The previous highest ranked team Lourdes had ever downed was number five nationally.

"We are very happy to get this win on the road," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We had to battle for lots of points and won some long rallies. We did a good job of serving today."

Brendan Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny H.S.) hit at a .750 clip with 10 kills on just 12 swings while
Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) and
Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) adding 10 kills as well.

In the opening set, Lourdes went on a 12-3 run to open up a 19-9 advantage on the way to building an early lead in the match. The Fighting Bees responded in the second, holding the Gray Wolves to just seven total kills while swinging at a .450 clip in the stanza. Saint Ambrose led just 16-13 before finishing the set on a 9-4 run.

Lourdes hit .303 in the third to pull out a tight victory. The Gray Wolves led 19-15 only to see the hosts score four straight to tie the set. Lourdes never allowed the Fighting Bees to take the lead late though, holding on for the win.

In the fourth, there were eight ties and three lead changes with Lourdes earning the extended victory. Saint Ambrose led 14-9 before an 8-1 run put Lourdes back on top. The Gray Wolves were in front 23-20 before Saint Ambrose evened the set at 24, but Lourdes would not allow the Bees to take another lead the rest of the way.

Lourdes hit just .198 for the match while Saint Ambrose swung at a .236 clip, the first time this season the Gray Wolves won a match with a lower hitting percentage that their opponents.Â
Ian Fields (Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.) handed out 24 assists while
Matheus Andrade (Coronel Fabriciano, Brazil/Alberto Giovannini H.S.) had a team-high nine digs.

Jaylen Clark led Saint Ambrose (15-6) with 15 kills while Riley Anderson tallied 10 digs.

Lourdes (15-5) remains on the road Wednesday evening, traveling to Des Moines, Iowa to face top-ranked Grand View. The opening serve is set for 8 p.m. EST inside of the Johnson Wellness Center.
