Lourdes bounced back from an 8-6 loss to Spring Arbor on Tuesday with a record-setting 19-12 victory over Trinity International at Sleepy Hollow in Leesburg, Fla.
The Gray Wolves set a program record with 19 runs while matching the school mark of 19 hits against the Trojans.
Lourdes scored in all seven innings against Trinity International. After falling behind 4-1 after one, the Gray Wolves tied the game with a three-run second. Trailing 6-4 heading to the third, the offense again erupted for three runs, as Lourdes built a 7-6 lead.
Two more runs crossed the plate in the fourth before Trinity International (3-5) answered with four in the bottom of the frame to rebuild a 10-9 lead.
A five-run fifth, highlighted by a three-run home run by
Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.) put the Gray Wolves in front to stay, and Lourdes added four insurance runs in the seventh after scoring one in the sixth.
Taylor Genzman (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.),
Alyssa Ziegler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.), and
Jimi McNew (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.) each had three hits for the Gray Wolves as seven Lourdes hitters finished with multi-hit games.
Samantha Shirling (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) earned the win (1-3) in the circle, tossing 3.1 innings of relief while allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three.
Taylor Carli suffered the loss (1-4) for the Trojans, allowing 10 runs and 11 hits in four innings of work.
Lourdes built a lead in the opener as well, scoring twice in the first and two more times in the third to take a 4-1 lead. After Spring Arbor responded to pull in front 5-4, Lourdes scored a pair of runs in the fifth, and carried a 6-5 lead into the seventh.
A three-run home run by Sydney Taylor in the seventh ended up being the difference as the Cougars pulled out the late inning victory.
Stanton went 3-for-4 with a double for the Gray Wolves as Lourdes pounded out 10 hits in the opener. Genzman and
Lindsay George (Wayne, Ohio/Elmwood H.S.) also had multi-hit games for the Gray Wolves.
Shirling suffered the loss in relief, allowing two runs in the seventh. Lauren Heath earned the win (1-1) for Spring Arbor (2-5).
Lourdes (1-5) will return to Sleepy Hollow on Thursday morning as the Gray Wolves face Trinity Christian and 9 a.m. and Midway at 11 a.m.
