Lourdes Picks Up First WHAC Win at Concordia

Fueled by five consecutive first half goals, Lourdes earned its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Concordia (Mich.) 11-8 at Cardinal Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

"This was another tough game in conference play and we need to straighten a few things out in practice as we move forward in WHAC play," head coach Patrick Yannarelli stated afterwards.

After Concordia scored the first two goals of the game, Lourdes responded with five straight spanning the opening two quarters.  D.J. Harris (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg H.S.) scored the first two goals to even the game after the opening 15 minutes and Greg Johanning (Tivertson, R.I./Tivertson H.S.) added two more goals to put Lourdes in front for good.

Cory Campbell's (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook H.S.) tallied increased the lead to three opening the second, and the Gray Wolves would hold that same margin heading into halftime, leading 7-4 following goals from Jake Noel (Knoxville, Tenn./William Blount H.S.) and Mark O'Bryant (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights H.S.).

Johanning and Campbell each added two goals each in the second half for the Gray Wolves as the two schools alternated goals throughout the second half.

Lourdes finished the game with a 48-24 shot advantage, including a 28-15 edge on goal.  Jared Huiskens (Bay City, Mich./Central H.S.) made seven saves for the Gray Wolves while the Cardinals' Tanner Ludeman made 17 stops.

Devin Wolever was the only multi-goal scorer for Concordia (3-8, 0-4 WHAC), scoring twice.

The Gray Wolves held a 33-14 advantage in ground balls, led by eight from Noel and four from Collin Miller (Royal Oak, Mich./Shrine H.S.).  The duo also combined to win 19-of-23 face-offs in the game, with Noel winning 17 himself.

Lourdes (7-4, 1-3) will conclude its road trip on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle 10th-ranked Aquinas.  The opening face-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Aquinas Athletic Field.
