The University of Michigan-Dearborn scored the game-winning goal with 2:10 to play on Wednesday evening, on the way to defeating Lourdes 12-11 at Wildcat Stadium on Senior Night for the Gray Wolves.
Â
Lourdes had rallied from a four-goal halftime deficit to take the lead 11-10 with five minutes to play before Hannibal Roda scored twice less than a minute a part to give the Wolverines the victory.
Â
"This was another very hard fought game on Senior Night," head coach
Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards. "We're very proud and appreciative for all the seniors and what they have done for the program."
Â
The Gray Wolves struck first on a goal by
D.J. Harris (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg H.S.) less than two minutes into the game and
Tanner Jaramillo (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) added another goal with 1:18 remaining in the opening quarter as the two sides ended the opening 15 minutes even on the scoreboard.
Â
Mark O'Bryant (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights H.S.) tied the game at three with 12:10 to play before halftime, but Michigan-Dearborn responded with four tallies before halftime to build a 7-3 lead at the break.
Â
O'Bryant started the Gray Wolf comeback attempt early in the third quarter, and also added a goal with 1:26 remaining in the period to tie the game at eight. Jaramillo scored twice during the run and
Jake Noel (Knoxville, Tenn./William Blount H.S.) also added a tally.
Â
The Wolverines scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter but again Lourdes battled back. Jaramillo found the back of the cage for the fourth time on the night and
Cory Campbell (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook H.S.) tied the game with 7:55 to play. Campbell added his second goal of the night at the five-minute mark to put Lourdes in front before the late Michigan-Dearborn rally.
Â
Lourdes finished with a 37-30 shot advantage, but shots on goal were even at 22. The Gray Wolves also had a 37-22 ground ball edge, led by Noel who had eight while winning 14-of-20 face-offs for the night.Â
Jared Huiskens (Bay City, Mich./Central H.S.) made 10 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves.
Â
Devon Callaghan led Michigan-Dearborn (6-7, 3-3 WHAC) with five goals while Roda added four more including the game-winner. Jon Chaffee made 11 saves between the posts for the Wolverines.
Â
Lourdes (7-5, 1-4) will take to the road on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Southfield, Mich. to battle Lawrence Tech. The opening face-off is set for 3 p.m. at the LTU Athletic Field.
Â
"We are looking to get back on the field," Yannarelli concluded.
