For the third time in four home games this season, Lourdes came away with a victory on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves defeated Madonna 20-13 at Wildcat Stadium.
"We started out a little rough but at halftime we came together and started working towards a common goal to pull out the win," head coach
Alyssa Shaver said after the victory.
Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) scored eight times and assisted on two more goals while
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) found the back of the net seven times in the victory.
With the game tied at three with just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half, the Gray Wolves scored the final six goals of the stanza. Reed scored three times, while Lourdes got two from Long, and another by
Ashley Hunt (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May H.S.), her second of three in the game, putting, the Gray Wolves on top 9-3 at intermission.
Madonna (1-11, 0-4 WHAC) cut the Gray Wolf lead in half, scoring three times in the first 1:20 of the second half before Long scored back-to-back goals to put Lourdes comfortably in front for good.
Hannah Cullis (Fort Worth, Texas/Central H.S.) and
Shelby Kellar (Holland, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) each contributed second half goals in the win.
Lourdes finished with a 49-30 shot advantage, including 37-22 on goal, for the contest.
Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) made nine saves in goal for the Gray Wolves while Marissa West made 17 stops for the Crusaders.
Madonna finished with a 22-21 edge in ground balls while Lourdes held an 18-17 advantage in ground balls. Cullis had eight draw controls and five ground balls while Reed also had five ground balls for Lourdes.
Brittney Leist led the Crusaders with five goals and six draw controls in the game.
Lourdes (8-4, 2-1) will close out the home portion of the 2018 regular season on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves host Aquinas at Wildcat Stadium. The opening draw is set for 7 p.m., with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the game.
