Lourdes bounced back from a 6-3 loss in game one of Thursday's doubleheader against Aquinas to defeat the Saints 3-1 in the night cap, gaining a split against the Saints at Pacesetter Park.
 
"Today was a nice team split, especially coming back after game one," head coach Jo Ann Gordon said following the doubleheader.  "Offensively we were constantly a threat and had a great approach at the plate all day at the plate.  Our pitching staff did a great job in the circle keeping their hitters off balance in both games."
 
Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) provided the pitching and the offense in the win in game two.  The senior tossed a one-hitter, needing just 79 pitches for the complete game win (4-5).  She walked three and struck out one.
 
Aquinas (25-11, 4-2 WHAC) took the lead in the fifth as Alex Forsythe broke up the no-hit bid with two outs, singling through the left side after a pair of Saints reached via walks.
 
The Gray Wolves responded in the bottom of the inning, as Taylor Tafelski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) and Shylee Schmeltz (Northwood, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) led off with back-to-back singles.  With two outs, Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) was intentionally walked and Gallaher stepped to the plate for the first time in the game, and tripled to the gap in right-center, scoring all three runs.
 
Gallaher returned to the circle for the final two innings, retiring the final seven hitters of the game in order.  The three-bagger was the first of her collegiate career.
 
"It was nice to see Brooke get the win in game two and get the game-winning three-run triple as well," Gordon added.
 
Mandy Rosol suffered the loss (4-5) for Aquinas, allowing the three runs and all seven Lourdes' hits in the game.
 
In the opener, Lourdes committed six errors, which led to five unearned runs.  The Saints took advantage of two miscues in the fourth, plating the game's first two runs before adding three more unearned tallies in the fifth following two more Gray Wolf errors.
 
Lourdes tried to rally in the bottom of the fifth, as Kostick delivered a bases loaded double that scored three.  Aquinas added one final insurance run in the seventh to end the Gray Wolves' comeback attempt.
 
Schmeltz and Taylor Genzman (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) had three hits each in the opener as part of a nine-hit attack for Lourdes.
 
Marisa Loya went the distance in the circle for the Saints earning the win (11-2), striking out four.
 
Lourdes (11-11, 3-1) has already had its games Saturday postponed due to forecasted inclement weather against Rochester (Mich.), and is now scheduled to return to the diamond on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Madonna.  First pitch of the twinbill is set for 1 p.m. at University Field in Livonia, Mich.
