Playing its first true road games of the season on Saturday, Lourdes battled back to force extra innings in game one, but eventually dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Concordia (Mich.) by scores of 5-4 in eight innings and 8-5 at Cardinal Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Â
Concordia scored single runs in each of the first four innings of game one, building a 4-1 lead heading into the seventh. Lourdes' lone run early came in the third as
Taylor Genzman (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Â
The Gray Wolves rallied in the seventh with two outs, as
Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) hit a pinch-hit three-run home run to tie the game at four.
Â
Lourdes threatened in the eight, putting two runners aboard, but failed to score, and the Cardinals plated a run in the bottom of the frame to win the opener.
Â
Jessica England went the distance for Concordia, allowing 10 hits and three walks while striking out four in the win (4-7).Â
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) surrendered 10 hits as well in the loss (6-5), fanning five.
Â
Oliviah Banister (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon H.S.) went 3-for-4 with a double while

Â
Lourdes jumped in front first in game two, as
Shylee Schmletz's (Northwood, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) RBI double in the third plated
Jimi McNew (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.).
Â
After the Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the third, Concordia scored five times, all unearned after a two-out error, to take the lead. Another unearned tally in the fifth increased the lead to 7-1.
Â
The Gray Wolves mounted a rally in the sixth, scoring four times to pull within two.Â
Alyssa Ziegler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) doubled home two runs while McNew plated another on a groundout. Banister's pinch-hit single scored the fourth.
Â
Concordia (12-18, 5-6) added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on the way to the sweep.
Â
Samantha Eubanks earned the win (7-7), allowing four earned runs and nine hits in a complete game effort while Gallaher suffered the loss, despite allowing just one earned run in 3.2 innings in the circle.
Â
Waters and Ziegler had two hits each for the Gray Wolves in the loss.
Â
Lourdes (13-15, 5-5) returns home on Sunday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves entertain Lawrence Tech at Pacesetter Park. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m., with Senior Day taking place prior to game one.
