Lourdes needed 10 innings in the opener and a late rally in game two to sweep a doubleheader from Cornerstone 6-5 and 11-7 at the CU Softball Field in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.) put Lourdes in front in the opening inning of game one with a two-out single.Â
Kim Waters (Belleville, Mich./Lincoln H.S.) two-run base hit in the fourth pushed the Gray Wolves' advantage to 3-0.

Cornerstone pulled in front with a four-run sixth inning, three of which were unearned as the Golden Eagles capitalized on a Lourdes error.

The Gray Wolves forced extra innings with a run in the seventh, as
Oliviah Banister (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon H.S.) led off the frame with a ground rule double, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a groundout by
Alyssa Ziegler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.).

Taylor Tafelski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) put the Gray Wolves in front in the ninth, singling home Banister who led off the inning with a hit. Cornerstone answered in the bottom of the inning, extending the game to the 10
th, where Waters singled home

Samantha Shirling (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) earned the win in the circle, starting, and then coming back in relief. She went 8.1 innings, allowing just one run while striking out seven. Rachel Younts suffered the loss (3-4), giving up three runs on six hits in six innings of relief.

Lourdes banged out 13 hits in the opener, with Genzman, Waters, Banister, Stanton, and
Shylee Schmeltz (Northwood, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) all registering two hits in the contest.

The Gray Wolves had to play from behind in game two, as Cornerstone scored seven times in the first four innings, plating at least one run in each frame. Lourdes scored two in the second on a groundout by
Jimi McNew (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.) and a sacrifice fly by
Sydnee Behlmer (Northwood, Ohio/Lake H.S.) and added a RBI single by Ziegler in the third.

Trailing 7-3 heading into the fifth, Lourdes batted around, taking advantage of a Cornerstone (12-18, 7-11 WHAC) error to score five unearned runs to take the lead. McNew singled home the first run and Behlmer followed with a two-run double. Schmeltz added a two-run single to put the Gray Wolves in front.

A double by Stanton and a single by Ziegler increased the lead to 10-7 in the sixth and the Gray Wolves added an insurance run via an error in the seventh.

Shirling came on in relief in the fourth inning, tossing 3.2 shutout innings to pick up her second win (4-5) of the day, allowing just three hits. Courtney Ducharme suffered the loss (0-4), giving up five unearned runs in relief.
