Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: After three straight postponements, Lourdes looks to return to the diamond this week with three home doubleheaders before beginning an eight-game road trip on Sunday. The Gray Wolves host Cleary on Tuesday, Aquinas on Thursday, and Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday before heading to Madonna
Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her sixth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jo Ann Gordon has a 77-137 (.360) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her 16th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 229-425 (.350) career mark. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 5-1 series edge against Cleary dating back to March 21, 2015. The Gray Wolves have won four straight in the series after sweeping a doubleheader 4-2 and 6-4 in Howell, Mich. last season. Lourdes is 2-0 against the Cougars at Pacesetter Park. Aquinas holds a 7-4 series advantage against Lourdes dating back to April 26, 2013. Last year the Saints swept a twinbill from the Gray Wolves 9-0 and 3-2 in Grand Rapids, Mich. The series is tied 2-2 all-time at Pacesetter Park. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Rochester (Mich.), winning the only two games between the two schools 10-2 and 1-0 on April 4, 2017 at Pacesetter Park.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes took the opener of Monday's doubleheader against Findlay 2-1 as
Marissa Kostick drove home both runs and earned the win pitching. The Oilers took game two 13-3, with Kostick driving in two more runs. Rain and cold prevented the remainder of the week to be played, as Lourdes has doubleheaders against Siena Heights, Northwestern Ohio, and Aquinas postponed.
Scouting Cleary: The Cougars have been idle since a 7-1 victory at Madonna on April 2, the team's fifth consecutive victory. Sarah Hall leads Cleary with a .411 batting average on a team that is hitting .278 overall. Riley Thompson leads the pitching staff with a 5-3 record and a 2.03 earned run average. The Cougar hurlers have posted a 3.52 ERA while opponents are hitting .301 against Cleary.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week having won three consecutive games after sweeping Rochester (Mich.) 9-1 and 18-6 last Monday. Aquinas hosts Lawrence Tech on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Briana Mairose is hitting .424 for Aquinas with seven home runs and 31 runs batted in, as the Saints have hit .334 as a team this year. Aquinas' pitching staff sports a 2.77 ERA led by Marisa Loya, who is 9-2 with a 1.97 ERA.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors enter the week having lost 15 consecutive games after dropping both ends of a doubleheader 3-2 and 14-3 at Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday. Rochester travels to Indiana Tech on Wednesday and hosts Concordia (Mich.) on Thursday prior to playing Lourdes. Jenna Dominek leads the team with a .433 batting average and 13 runs batted in, while Rochester is hitting .290 as a team. The Warriors' pitching staff sports a 7.86 earned run average and opponents are batting .368 against them. Brooke Snyder leads the way with a 3-5 record and a 5.69 ERA.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have lost four straight after falling 7-1 at Cleary on April 2. Madonna faces Indiana Tech, Cornerstone, Michigan-Dearborn, and Aquinas this week before hosting Lourdes. Halee Warren is hitting .362 with four home runs and 17 RBI for a team batting .294. Ciera Jones leads the pitching staff with a 5-3 record and a 1.64 ERA for a Madonna staff that sports a 3.38 ERA with opponents hitting .284 against them.
Weather Adjusts Gray Wolf Schedule: With all of the weather issues, there have been multiple games rescheduled. Sunday's Aquinas games will now be played this Thursday (April 12), with the Hillsdale doubleheader being cancelled. The Madonna doubleheader from March 31 has been rescheduled for Sunday (April 15), while the twinbill at Cornerstone has been moved from Friday to April 16. Finally, the Siena Heights games will be made up on April 25 and the Northwestern Ohio doubleheader has been rescheduled for April 28.
Stanton Continues to Get Hits: Olivia Stanton enters the week with an eight-game hitting streak that began the final day in Florida against Indiana-South Bend. Over the eight-game span she is batting .400 (10-for-25) with a double and six runs batted in. She's also walked twice and has posted a .444 on base percentage. She has the longest active hitting streak on the team, and the second longest of the season, behind
Marissa Kostick's nine-game hitting streak earlier this year.
Kostick and Stanton Drive Home Runs: Marissa Kostick and
Olivia Stanton have combined for 12 of the Gray Wolves' 18 multi-RBI games this year. Kostick has driven in at least two runs in seven games, including three games with three RBI. Stanton has five multi-RBI contests, and also has three three-RBI efforts.
This and That: Kim Waters made her first two collegiate starts against Findlay ...
Lindsay George,
Taylor Genzman, and
Shylee Schmeltz are the only Gray Wolves to start all 18 contests ... George has been hit by four pitches this year and nine in her first season and a half.
