Lourdes Baseball’s Season Ends with Loss to Northwestern Ohio

Lourdes saw the most successful season in the baseball program's history come to a close on Friday morning, as the Gray Wolves fell 15-7 to the University of Northwestern Ohio at Racer Field in Lima, Ohio in game two of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament.

After surrendering a run in the opening inning, Lourdes tied the game in the second on a double by Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Bradshaw Mountain H.S.).  A three-run third put the Gray Wolves in the lead.  Devin Stanley (Euclid, Ohio/Saint Edward H.S.) singled home a run and Riggs tripled home another as Lourdes built a 4-1 lead.

The Racers answered in the bottom of the third, scoring five times, including a pair of two-run home runs by Dayfran Ortiz and Misael Lebron.  Northwestern Ohio added another home run in the sixth by Kyle Fisher, increasing the lead to 7-4.

Lourdes pulled to within one in the seventh as Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) scored on an error and George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central H.S.) added a RBI single.

Northwestern Ohio (37-16) broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six times, including a grand slam by Felix Correa.  The Racers added a pair of runs in the eighth.

Michael Davis (Whittier, Calif./California H.S.) drove home one final run for the Gray Wolves in the ninth, but Lourdes stranded the bases loaded to end the game.

Pastor led Lourdes with three hits, while Denman, Stanley, Riggs, and Glen Crabtree (Medina, Ohio/Black River H.S.) added two hits each as part of the Gray Wolves' 14-hit attack.

Mitch Ebben earned the win (5-0) for the Racers with three innings of relief while Matt York (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (4-4), allowing six runs and eight hits in three innings of work.

Lourdes finishes the season 22-23 overall, setting a school record for victories in a year.
