Lourdes wrapped up play in the Gray Wolf Invitational on Saturday, posting a 3-0 victory over Indiana-South Bend in the afternoon before sweeping Coastal Georgia by the same margin in the evening inside of the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

The Gray Wolves defeated the Titans 25-13, 25-18, 25-14 and downed the Mariners 25-15, 25-18, 25-11.

In the opener against Indiana-South Bend (1-2), Lourdes hit .342 for the match while limiting the Titans to just a .032 hitting mark. The Gray Wolves also tallied 10 service aces while committing just four errors and outdug their guest 45-26.

"We came out and played at a much higher level than we did last night," head coach
Greg Reitz said following the opener. "With hit much more efficiently and distributed the ball really well. We won the serve and pass battle which will give us a chance to win a lot of matches."

Lourdes started quickly, racing out to a 7-2 lead against the Titans. Another 12-5 run late in the set allowed the Gray Wolves to pull away, putting down 14 kills in the set.

The Gray Wolves trailed 11-8 in set two before five consecutive points off the serve of
Carol Goncalves (Brazilia, Brazil/Sagrado Corcacao de Maria H.S.) put Lourdes in front for good. The hosts committed just two attack errors in the stanza, building a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third, Lourdes limited Indiana-South Bend to just three kills, and racked up seven service aces to complete the sweep.Â
Monique Oliveira (Rio Branco, Brazil/Americo Rene Giannetti H.S.) had four aces and
Angelica Dippold (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) added three more in the set. Dippold's effort spearheaded a 7-0 run that put Lourdes in front 9-2 and Oliveira's service run was part of an 11-0 spurt that made it 22-9 Gray Wolves.

Tylar Roberson (Elkhart, Ind./Central H.S.) and
Emily Drenth (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South H.S.) led Lourdes with 11 kills each, hitting .474 and .368 for the match respectively. Goncalves handed out 30 assists while Oliveira and
Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich./Huron H.S.) paced the defense with 11 digs.

Sydney Lubinski led Indiana-South Bend with six kills, as the Titans hit just .032 for the match.

Lourdes hit better than .360 in two of the three sets against Coastal Georgia (4-3), on the way to a .260 hitting night overall. Defensively, the Gray Wolves were just as sound, limiting the Mariners to a .026 mark, including a negative percentage in two of the three sets. Lourdes outdug Coastal Georgia 57-41 and held a 5-0 ace edge.

"I was happy with our performance again tonight to close out the weekend," Reitz said. "We served aggressively and passed very well with no reception errors. I thought we hit efficiently again and had yet another strong defensive effort."

A 6-1 run midway through the opening set allowed Lourdes to build a 16-8 lead, on the way to a 17-kill effort as a team in the stanza.

The Gray Wolves forced 12 Coastal Georgia attack errors in set two, six via blocks, while taking control of the match. Trailing 10-8, Lourdes scored 13 of the next 14 points to pull away.

Lourdes never trailed in the final set, racing out to a 7-1 lead. The Gray Wolves limited the Mariners to just six kills total in the frame, earning their second sweep of the day.

Drenth hit .310 with a team-leading 13 kills while Oliveira and Roberson added 10 kills each. Oliveira swung at a .400 clip and also shared team-high honors with 14 digs. Goncalves handed out 33 assists and had 10 digs for a double-double while Polce tallied 14 digs and Dippold added 12 more.

Evan Matheson (Fallon, Nev./Churchill County H.S.) was involved in seven of the team's 11 blocks.

Alexis Downey led Coastal Georgia with seven kills while Yorelis Rios Gonzalez tallied a team-high 13 digs for the Mariners in the loss.

Lourdes (3-0) closes out its season-opening homestand when the Gray Wolves open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Sept. 5 as Indiana Tech visits the Ebeid Rec Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
