Quick Start Pushes Rochester Past Lourdes Sunday Afternoon

Rochester (Mich.) scored a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the match and Lourdes was unable to rally on Sunday, as the Gray Wolves fell to the Warriors 3-2 at Wildcat Stadium.

Ashlin Taylor and Cassidy Kowalski connected on each of the first two goals for the Warriors.  Both tallies were carbon copies of one another as Kowalski sent a cross into the goalmouth where she found Taylor's foot on both occasions, the first just 1:37 into the match and the second at the 9:27 mark.

The Gray Wolves cut their deficit in half in the 25th minute as Karlie O'Keefe (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) slotted the ball to the middle of the goal box from the top corner, and found Alyssa Swanson (Canton, Mich./Plymouth H.S.) for her first goal of the season.

Rochester pushed its lead back to 3-1 by halftime as Kowalski earned her third assist of the day, finding Courtney Hall at the far post from the left side following a Warrior corner kick opportunity.

Lourdes outshot the Warriors 13-4 in the opening stanza despite trailing by two.

The Gray Wolves looked poised for a second half rally, as Hannah Martin (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington H.S.) dribbled down the right side of the field, and fired from just outside the penalty area into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.

Lourdes continued to put the pressure on the Warriors throughout the second half, especially in the final 15 minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer.  The Gray Wolves tallied another 13 shots over the final 45 minutes, giving Lourdes a 26-7 shot edge for the match, but Anna Green made nine saves for Rochester (3-6-1, 1-2 WHAC).  The Gray Wolves also had nine second half corner kick chances, finishing with an 11-7 edge in that category.

Lourdes (3-5-1, 0-3) will return to Wildcat Stadium on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves host Cleary.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
