Taylor scored twice in less than four minutes spanning halftime on Saturday afternoon on the way to a 3-1 victory over Lourdes at a rainy Turner Stadium in Upland, Ind.
Lourdes kept the Trojans off the scoreboard nearly the entire first half, despite being outshot 10-1 in the stanza. Taylor finally broke through with 2:46 left before intermission as Bailey Zehr tipped in a cross from Ali Clodgo to put the hosts in front at halftime.
The Trojans doubled their lead just 44 seconds out of the break, as Emily Calvani scored on a deflection in front of the Gray Wolf goal.
Maddy Hodgson (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) pulled Lourdes within one with just over 22 minutes remaining, floating a ball from 30 yards out over Trojan netminder Lauren Cammarano, who entered the match at halftime. Hodgson tallied her first collegiate goal, while
Hannah Rousse (Bay City, Mich./Western H.S.) picked up her first point at Lourdes with the assist.
Taylor (3-0-2) added an insurance goal with 12:25 left in the contest as Jourdan Lehman scored from inside the penalty area.
The Trojans finished the match with a 19-4 shot advantage, including an 11-2 edge on goal.
Kiley Transit (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak H.S.) made eight saves in goal for the Gray Wolves while Lauren Engelkes made the only stop for Taylor in the first half.
Taylor also had a 12-4 corner edge, with Lourdes earning three corners and taking two of its four shot attempts in the final four minutes of the match.
Lourdes (2-1-1) will return home to Wildcat Stadium for the first time in 2018 on Tuesday evening, as the Gray Wolves host Huntington. Kickoff in the home opener is set for 6 p.m.
