Gray Wolves Stumble 69-37 at Nationally-Ranked UM-Dearborn

Nationally-ranked UM-Dearborn upended Lourdes and ended the Gray Wolves two-game win streak as the hosts defeated Lourdes 69-37 inside the UMD Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
 
After UM-Dearborn (20-4, 12-3 WHAC) scored on their opening possession, Christiana Jefferson (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame) came down the floor and answered with a jumper to knot the contest at 2-2. From there, the Wolverines scored 19 straight points to pull ahead 21-2.
 
Sydney Miller (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake) hit her lone three-pointer of the day to stop the run at the 3:02 mark of the first quarter. UMD held a 29-5 after one period.
 
With the Wolverines continuing to exert their will in the second quarter, Lourdes saw its offense open up in the second stanza, scoring 12 points and pulling within 45-17 at the intermission.
 
Jefferson opened the second half with a jumper, but Michigan-Dearborn scored 11 straight to keep Lourdes in check, pushing their lead to 56-19 with 5:38 left in the third. Sirena Pitts (Orlando, Fla/Ocoee) hit a jumper to stop the Dearborn run.
 
Lourdes scored six straight points capped by a jumper from Miller to open the fourth quarter, but the Wolverines held on, defeating the Gray Wolves 69-37.
 
Miller netted a team-high nine points, while Pitts added six on the afternoon. Ra'Zhane Newberry (Cleveland, Ohio/Euclid) grabbed nine rebounds to lead Lourdes on the glass.
 
The Wolverines were led by an 18-point outing by Sade Lemons.
 
Lourdes finished 16-of-68 (23.5%) from the field, hitting only one three during the contest, while UM-Dearborn was 25-of-56 (44.6%) from the field, sinking 11 three-pointers.
 
The Gray Wolves (9-14, 4-10 WHAC) return to action on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. when they host No. 20-ranked Siena Heights at the Ebeid Recreation Center.
