The Gray Wolf women's basketball team got back on track on Monday afternoon as it picked up an impressive 84-39 victory on the road at Great Lakes Christian inside the Doty Center.
"It was good to get this victory to get us back on track," said head coach
John Kenger following the contest. "We had a little bit of a slow start out of the gate but really came alive down the stretch. Now we have to dig in and get ready for another conference matchup on Wednesday."
The Gray Wolves found themselves in a hole early on as Great Lakes Christian (0-15) opened up a quick 8-3 lead to force a Lourdes timeout. Lourdes responded after the short break after
Sara Semler (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) hit a jumper and sparked a 12-0 run to give Lourdes a 15-8 lead with 3:03 left in the opening stanza. Semler scored seven of the 12 points in the run.
After the Crusaders scored six of the final nine points to end the first quarter, Lourdes used an 11-2 run capped by a
Sydney Miller (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake) jumper to open the second quarter and take a commanding 29-16 lead with 3:51 left in the half. A
Riley Raburn (Horton, Mich./Lumen Christi) free throw helped Lourdes hold a 13-point advantage as it took a 41-28 lead into the intermission.
The third quarter belonged to the visiting Gray Wolves as they outscored Great Lakes Christian 23-7 to push the lead to 64-35 heading into the final period. Miller scored eight points in the quarter, including a personal 6-0 run to close the period out for the Gray Wolves.
Lourdes continued to dominate the second half, outscoring Great Lakes Christian 20-4 to seal the victory.
Sirena Pitts (Orlando, Fla./Ocoee) scored eight points in the final period and combined with
LaTyrah Beasley (Toledo, Ohio/Bowsher) to score 14 points of Lourdes 20 points in the fourth.
The Gray Wolves got a solid effort from their bench, as four non-starters finished the contest in double-figures. Miller and Beasley recorded 13 points each in the victory and Pitts notched her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a season-high 12 rebounds.
Ramiah Henry (Toledo, Ohio/Waite) chipped in 12 points and Raburn added 10 in the victory.
