Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lauf Goes for Season-High 33 as Men’s Basketball Falls 86-84 in OT at Concordia (Mich.)

Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) poured in a season-high 33 points, but the Gray Wolf men's basketball team dropped a tight 86-84 decision in overtime on the road at Concordia.

Lauf's first three-pointer of the night gave the Gray Wolves a 7-6 edge just over two minutes into the contest, but Concordia (4-15, 3-8 WHAC) used a quick 8-0 run to regain the lead at 14-7 with 16:04 left in the first half.

The Gray Wolves would cut the lead down to less than five on multiple occasions in the first half, but the hosts were able to answer to stay just ahead of Lourdes throughout the half.

With the contest knotted at 39-all late in the first half, Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) nailed a three-pointer to push the Gray Wolves ahead 42-39 at the intermission.

Lourdes saw its lead grow to as many as 53-48 in the second half following a jumper from Lauf with 13:25 left in regulation. Concordia would continue to chip away and saw its biggest lead of the second half come at the 4:49 mark of the half as it took a 71-63 lead.

After Lauf hit a late jumper to tie the game at 74-74, Bryce McComb (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton) came up with a big steal on the ensuing possession and Lauf again connected from the floor to push the lead to 76-74 with 1:08 left in the half. The Cardinals answered and had a chance to go for the win at the end of regulation, but McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield Heights) came up big defensively and got his fourth block of the evening with 0.2 seconds left to force overtime.

The Gray Wolves found themselves behind 85-81 with just 32 seconds left in the contest, but Lauf came up big once again and hit a spot up three from the top of the key to cut the lead to 85-84 with 21 seconds left.

Concordia hit 1-of-2 free throws on the ensuing possession, leaving Lourdes room to go for the win. After Lauf missed a three-pointer and Desmond Frazier (Ocala, Fla./Dunnellon) grabbed an offensive board, McComb missed a desperation three-pointer in the corner and Concordia went on the win 86-84.

Lauf's 33-point effort led both teams, while Snow added 21 points, and White and Frazier chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Jerald Booker scored 24 points to lead Concordia and Jalen Thompson added a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Gray Wolves finished 32-of-65 (49.2%) from the field, while the Cardinals were 34-of-66 (51.5%) from the floor.

Lourdes (13-7, 4-6) is back in action this Saturday as it travels to Grand Rapids, Mich. and meets Aquinas with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
