Lourdes Closes Season with 1-0 Victory over Siena Heights

Lourdes wrapped up the 2019 regular season on Friday afternoon, scoring a 1-0 victory over Siena Heights at Wildcat Stadium to kickoff Homecoming weekend.

"I'm proud of the boys for their efforts today," head coach Matt Johnson said after the match.  "We showed great character to turn around quickly after a difficult and emotional loss on Wednesday and played quite well.  Our execution in the attacking half was as good as we've had all season, and we were close to scoring two to three more.  I'm encouraged by how we responded, and happy to see things go on a good note."

The Gray Wolves controlled most of the opening stanza, outshooting the Saints 13-5.  Lourdes finally broke through on the scoreboard with 9:59 to play before halftime.  N'Faly Diallo (Detroit, Mich./Mumford H.S.) picked up a misplay from the Siena Heights' keeper and found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.

The Gray Wolf defense was able to keep the Saints from finding the back of the net in the second half as the team recorded its sixth shutout of the season.  Jorge Mendoza (Houston, Texas/Houston Heights H.S.) and Garrett Baxley (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood H.S.) each played 45 minutes and made two saves a piece in the clean sheet effort.

Lourdes (6-12, 4-7 WHAC) finished with a 19-10 advantage in shots, including an 8-4 mark on goal, with Diallo leading the team with three shots on net.  Andrew Kozan made seven saves for Siena Heights (7-10-1, 4-6-1).  The Gray Wolves also had a 4-3 edge in corner kick opportunities.
