No. 14 Lourdes Matches School Mark with Eighth Straight Victory

Lourdes tied a school record with its eighth consecutive victory on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves pulled away from Concordia (Mich.) late for a 74-60 win inside of Cardinal Fieldhouse in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Gray Wolves also won eight straight contests from Jan. 23-Feb. 13, 2013.

Leading by four with under five minute to play, the 14th-ranked Gray Wolves closed on a 14-4 run to maintain its spot atop the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference heading into the holidays.

"I thought we played a solid game and took advantage of their gimmick defense," head coach Dennis Hopson said after the game.

Lourdes used an 11-0 run midway through the opening half to build a 20-10 lead, only to see the Cardinals pull within two points late in the stanza.  The Gray Wolves took a 31-28 lead into the locker room despite making just 2-of-13 from three-point range in the first 20 minutes.

The Gray Wolves would shoot nearly 54% from the floor in the second half on the way to securing the win. Concordia came out of halftime and immediately tied the game at 33, but Lourdes answered with nine consecutive points to take the lead for good.

The lead grew to 12, 48-36, with 13 minutes to play and was a 13-point advantage with under nine minutes remaining before Concordia made a run.  The Cardinals pulled to within four, 60-56, at the 6:49 mark, but would get no closer as the Gray Wolves went on the final run to secure the win.

Julian Egbo (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with a double-double, scoring 20 points and adding 11 rebounds while Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) just missed one, finishing with 14 points and nine boards.  Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary Central Catholic H.S.) and Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) added 13 and 12 points respectively while each grabbed eight rebounds.

The Gray Wolves finished with a 45-23 rebounding advantage, including a 17-6 edge on the offensive glass.

Greg Alexander led Concordia (4-10, 2-5 WHAC) with 16 points and eight rebounds while Jerald Booker added 13 points.

Lourdes (11-3, 7-1) will return to the hardwood on Friday evening, as the Gray Wolves play an exhibition game at NCAA Division II Ashland.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside of Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio.
