The Lourdes women's lacrosse team mounted a valiant comeback late in the second half against Adrian at Wildcat Stadium, but ultimately fell short on a cold Wednesday evening.
Trailing 10-5 midway through the second half, Lourdes began to chip away at the Adrian (1-0, 0-0 MIAA) lead, scoring four straight goals to get within 10-9.
Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) began the run for Lourdes as she capitalized on a series of saved Gray Wolf shots with 19:31 left in the contest and pulled the Gray Wolves within 10-6.
Reed then found
Ashley Hunt (Cape May, New Jersey/Lower Cape May) and
Bella D'Arcy (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) on back-to-back goals over the next few minutes to help Lourdes cut the gap to 10-8 with 15:06 left in the contest.
Reed continued to be a force offensively, firing a shot into the back of the visiting net with 14:16 in the contest, getting Lourdes within 10-9 and forcing an Adrian timeout.
After Adrian extended its lead to 11-9, D'Arcy took advantage of a Bulldog miscue and scored on a free position shot to cut the lead to 11-10.
Senior
Brianna Budd (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula) found a cutting Hunt minutes later, who scored the equalizer and knotted the game at 11-11 with 8:02 remaining in the contest.
The Bulldogs were able to regain some momentum and ultimately scored the final four goals of the contest to pull away and seal the 15-11 victory.
Lourdes saw itself playing from behind early on after Adrian jumped out to a 3-0 lead. But consecutive goals from Hunt, Reed and
Brianna Nantz (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) knotted the game at 3-all. Adrian scored two of the final three goals of the first half to take a 5-4 lead at the break.
Reed led way for Lourdes, netting four goals and adding three assists. Hunt also found the back of the net four times for the Gray Wolves. Budd grabbed a team-high three ground balls, while goalkeeper
Jacque Pappadakes (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) notched 13 saves for Lourdes.
The Gray Wolves (2-3, 0-0 WHAC) will take just over a week off before traveling to Hope on March 9 for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Flying Dutch.
