Lourdes returned to the diamond on Monday morning in Clermont, Fla., suffering an 8-2 setback to Saint Francis (Ind.) and a 5-2 defeat to sixth-ranked Marian at Legends Way.

"I thought we made big strides in the right direction today, especially defensively," head coach
Jo Ann Gordon said afterwards. "Offensively, we need to continue to trust the process and the hits will come."

The Gray Wolves fell behind quickly against Saint Francis in the opener, as the Cougars plated three runs in the first and another in the second to build a 4-0 lead.Â

Kayla Gauthier (Linwood, Mich./Pinconning H.S.) scored following a throwing error on the play.Â
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) followed with a sacrifice fly to plate
Kim Waters (Belleville, Mich./Lincoln H.S.), making it a 4-2 game.

Saint Francis (7-5) batted around for the second time in the game in the fifth, scoring four times on just one hit, taking advantage of four walks and two hit batters in the inning to break the game open.

The Gray Wolves outhit Saint Francis 6-5 in the game, with
Megan Motte (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay H.S.) collecting a pair of hits for the Gray Wolves.

Katelin Augsburger earned the win (1-0), striking out six while allowing just the two runs, only one of which was earned, while skattering three hits over five innings. Kostick suffered the loss (0-1), giving up eight runs and five hits while walking five and fanning three in 4.2 innings of work.

Lizzie Meyer went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Ashleigh Morrow also drove home a pair of runs for the Cougars.

In game two, Marian (6-0) scored a run in the top of the first, but the Gray Wolves tied the contest in the second.Â
Alexis Nowowiecki (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) singled with two aboard, and when the throw got away,
Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.) scored to even the game at one.

Three straight singles produced a pair of runs for Marian to put the Knights in front 3-1 in the third before Lourdes battled back again. In the fifth,
Allie Teeple (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) reached on an infield single, stole second, and moved to third on a fly ball.Â
Alyssa Ziegler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) drove home Teeple with a groundout, pulling the Gray Wolves within 3-2.

Lourdes was unable to get any closer, as Marian added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth to secure the win.

Shelby Herron earned the complete game win (2-0), giving up one earned run and four hits, striking out eight and walking one.Â
Tiana Card (Brook Park, Ohio/Berea-Midpark H.S.) suffered the loss (0-2), giving up the five runs on nine hits.

Teeple had a two-hit game for the Gray Wolves in game two while Olivia Hoffman had two RBI and Shelbie Stotts had two hits for the Knights.

Lourdes (0-4) will return to the diamond on Tuesday morning. The Gray Wolves face Indiana-South Bend at 9:15 a.m. and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods at 11:30 a.m. at Hancock Park.
