Lourdes Sweeps Goshen to Remain Perfect at Home

Lourdes remained unbeaten on its home floor during the 2019 season on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves cruised to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 victory over Goshen inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

The second-ranked Gray Wolves hit .330 as a team with 45 kills in the three stanza, nearly doubling the Maple Leafs total of 23 kills.  Lourdes also held a 45-21 dig advantage and a 6-2 edge in service aces.

"It was nice to get back home and pick up another win," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "We are finally getting back healthy and it was good to get our full lineup back on the floor."

Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/.Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) served up six consecutive points in the opening set as the Gray Wolves built a 13-4 advantage on the way to the victory.  Lourdes then put down 17 kills in each of the next two sets to complete the sweep, hitting .464 in the second stanza.

With the second set ties at 13, Lourdes scored the next four points on the way to closing the frame on a 12-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  The Gray Wolves led just 17-16 in the fourth as well before a 7-1 spurt put the contest out of reach.

Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) led the way offensively with 15 kills while hitting .417 and Ricardo Gehrke added 13 kills with a .400 hitting percentage.  Henrique Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/.Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) dished out 42 assists while running the offense.

Defensively, Matheus Andrade (Coronel Fabriciano, Brazil/Alberto Giovanni H.S.) led the way with 12 digs while Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) added 11 more.

Alexander Rabadzhiev led Goshen (7-16, 0-6 WHAC) with 10 kills and eight digs.

Lourdes (16-3, 6-0) heads out on the road for the final time in the regular season on Friday evening, traveling to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle sixth-ranked Aquinas in a showdown for the top spot in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.

"We now need to turn our attention to Friday's match and make sure we are ready to go," Reitz concluded.
