Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: Lourdes will open its seventh season of intercollegiate softball on Sunday, beginning a 12-game trip to the Sunshine State.  The Gray Wolves will face Saint Ambrose and Warner on opening day.

Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her seventh season on the Lourdes bench, Jo Ann Gordon has a 83-151 (.355) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In her 16th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 235-439 (.349) career mark.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes is meeting Saint Ambrose, Warner, and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for the first time ever on the diamond.  The Gray Wolves are 4-1 against Saint Francis (Ind.) dating back to April 16, 2013.  Last year the Gray Wolves won 4-3 in Clermont, Fla.  Marian is 4-1 all-time against Lourdes dating back to March 11, 2014, with all five meetings taking place in Florida.  Last year the Knights earned a 2-1 victory.  The Gray Wolves are 1-0 against Indian-South Bend, winning the only meeting 7-1 in Clermont on March 10, 2018.

Wrapping Up Last Season: Lourdes finished 2018 with a 15-23 record overall and a 7-13 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, placing 10th.  Taylor Genzman and Marissa Kostick were First Team All-WHAC selections while Olivia Stanton and Kim Waters garnered Second Team All-WHAC honors.

Scouting Saint Ambrose: The Bees have won five straight games after shutting out Mount Mary and Saint Louis Pharmacy on March 2.  Madelyn Thompson is batting .545 with eight RBI while Jane Thomas is 3-0 in the circle with a 0.36 earned run average.

Scouting Warner: The Royals have won five straight after sweeping Calumet 3-0 and 7-0 on March 1.  Kasey Heslin is hitting .464 with seven RBI while in the circle Brooke Olinger is 3-0 with a 0.49 ERA.

Scouting Saint Francis (Ind.): The Cougars have won three straight games, but have been idle since Feb. 3 when they defeated Concordia (Mich.) 3-2.  Vivian Goodpaster is hitting .444 with two RBI while Brooke Herron has struck out six and has a 0.00 ERA in a team-leading eight innings in the circle.

Scouting Marian: The Knights open their season on Friday afternoon against Bellevue and Calumet.  Last year, Marian finished the season 51-7 overall and 34-2 in the Crossroads League and advanced to the NAIA World Series.

Scouting Indiana-South Bend: The Titans open their season on Saturday against Grace and Carlow.  Indiana-South Bend went 14-21 in 2018 with an 8-14 record in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Scouting Saint Mary-of-the-Woods: The Pomeroys open their season Sunday against Indiana-South Bend and Saint Ambrose.  Last year, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods went 23-17 overall and advanced to the USCAA National Championship game.

Lourdes In Season Openers: Lourdes is 2-4 all-time in its season openers.  The Gray Wolves fell in their opener in 2018 to Judson 3-1, and last won their first game of the season on March 5, 2017, a 4-3 victory over second-ranked Saint Xavier.  Lourdes has opened the season in Florida in five of its six seasons.

Returning In the Circle: Marissa Kostick is the lone Gray Wolf with experience in the circle.  The senior has 22 career wins, most in program history, and is third all-time with 63 strikeouts.  Kostick sports a 3.90 earned run average and has a school-record 30 complete games.  She is 34.1 innings shy of setting the school mark in that category as well.

Among the Best Hitters: Taylor Genzman, Olivia Stanton, and Marissa Kostick all rank among the school's all-time batting lists.  Genzman is third with a .345 career average, third with 137 career hits, and second with 86 runs scored.  Stanton is fifth in average (.329) and fourth in doubles (28) and runs batted in (59).  Kostick ranks seventh with a .318 batting average, is sixth with 16 doubles, fourth with eight home runs, and sixth with 48 RBI.

New Faces: More than half of the Gray Wolves' roster has yet to see the field at Lourdes.  The Gray Wolves have eight freshmen, a redshirt-freshman, and two transfers among the 20-player roster.

Success in Florida: Last year Lourdes finished 6-6 on its trip to the Sunshine State, matching its best start in program history.  Three times in the last five years the Gray Wolves have returned north at the .500 mark through 12 games.

This and That: Lourdes is 1-22 all-time against ranked foes, downing #2 Saint Xavier in Florida in 2017 ... the Gray Wolves are 29-42 all-time in neutral site games and 5-13 when playing extra innings ... Kim Waters led the team batting .393 in 2018 ... March 10 is the second latest start in program history (March 20, 2015 is the latest).
