Lourdes earned a doubleheader split with Siena Heights, the first place team in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, on Wednesday afternoon, winning the opener 8-5 before falling 10-2 at Pacesetter Park.

The Gray Wolves jumped in front first in the opener, as
Alexis Nowowiecki (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) singled home
Shylee Schmeltz (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) in the bottom of the second inning.

After the Saints tied the game with an unearned run in the third, Lourdes answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.Â
Kim Waters (Belleville, Mich./Lincoln H.S.) led off with a triple and scored one batter later on a single by
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.). With two outs in the inning,
Abby Cantrell (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) hit a chopper to second that was misplayed, allowing pinch-runner
Allie Teeple (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) and
Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.) to score, making it 4-1 Gray Wolves.

Siena Heights scored a pair in the top of the fifth to pull within one, but Kostick was able to strand the bases loaded to maintain the lead before the Gray Wolf offense erupted again. Stanton doubled to open the bottom of the third and scored on a two-out error off the bat of
Alyssa Ziegler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.).

Lourdes plated three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, as
Erin Manley (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) singled home Kostick and Nowowiecki added two more RBI, plating Stanton and Manley.

Siena Heights scored two in the top of the seventh, but Kostick finished off the complete game win (4-6). She struck out five and scattered eight hits on the evening while yielding just three earned runs. Racquel Ward suffered the loss (13-4) for the Saints, striking out five while allowing 10 hits and six walks.

Stanton went 2-for-2 with three runs scored while Nowowiecki added two hits and three RBI. Waters and Kostick both had two hit games as well for the Gray Wolves.

The Saints jumped in front quickly in game two, taking advantage of six first inning walks to score six times while sending 11 batters to the plate.

Lourdes answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, one on a double by Kostick, which scored Waters, and another on a sacrifice fly from Manley.

The game remained 6-2 until the fifth when Siena Heights (25-9, 10-2 WHAC) added four more tallies to close out the game.

Kelsey Uhl limited the Gray Wolves to just five hits in the nightcap to earn the win (9-5), striking out five for the Saints.Â
Ashley Riley (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor H.S.) suffered the loss (0-4).

Stanton accounted for two of the five hits for the Gray Wolves in game two.

Lourdes (6-16, 2-8) will begin an eight-game road trip on Thursday afternoon, traveling to Rochester Hills, Mich. to face Rochester (Mich.). First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 3:30 p.m. at Jaycee Field.
