The Lourdes university baseball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Concordia on Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Field.
Â
In game one, Concordia (24-13) scored the first run of the game in the bottom half of the third frame to take a 1-0 lead.
Â
The Gray Wolves would draw even with the Cardinals in the top of the fourth inning as
Cameron Gallo (Mason, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) stole second and forced a throw from the catcher, allowing
Michael Davis (Whittier, Calif./California) to steal home and knot the game at 1-1.
Â
Concordia opened the contest up in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to claim a late 5-1 lead. Gallo would hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, cutting the lead to 5-2, but an insurance run from the Cardinals in the sixth sealed the 6-2 victory.
Â
Gallo finished 1-for-2 offensively for Lourdes, while
Brad Ammons (Holland, Ohio/Springfield) recorded the only other hit for the Gray Wolf offense.
Â
In the second contest, Lourdes once again found itself playing from behind as Concordia scored three runs in the bottom of the first.
Â
Lourdes would answer in the top of the second inning with a run as
Noah Childress (Toledo, Ohio/Start) singled
Joey Oehlers (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford) home to cut the lead to 3-1.
Â
Concordia took control in the bottom half of the inning, adding four more runs to stretch the lead to 7-1 through two innings.
Â
After a scoreless third inning, the Lourdes offense found life, beginning with a Childress two-RBI double to cut the lead to 7-3 in the fourth inning. On the ensuing at-bat,
Kevin Suttles (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) cleared the bases with a homerun to pull Lourdes within 7-5.
Â
Concordia would once again stretch the lead, tallying three runs in the fourth and sixth innings to push the lead to 10-5. A
Corey Righman (Ashville, Ohio/Teays Valley) triple to lead off the seventh inning was followed by a sacrifice fly from Davis to plate the run, but Lourdes couldn't get any closer as Concordia held on for the 10-6 victory.
Â
Righman led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Childress finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run.
Â
Lourdes (12-17) is back in action on Monday when it travels to Siena Heights for a single game at 6 p.m. at the SHU Baseball Diamond.
