Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: Lourdes heads into the penultimate week of the regular season set to play four doubleheaders in five days this week. The Gray Wolves travel to Cleary on Tuesday, host Rio Grande in non-conference action Wednesday, and visit Lawrence Tech on Thursday. Lourdes then entertains Madonna on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her seventh season on the Lourdes bench,
Jo Ann Gordon has a 88-172 (.338) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her 16th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 240-460 (.343) career mark. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes leads the all-time series against Cleary 6-2 dating back to March 21, 2015. The teams split a twinbill at Pacesetter Park last season, with the Cougars taking the opener 6-0 before Lourdes won game two 4-1. Lourdes is 3-1 all-time in Howell, Mich. Rio Grande won the only previous game against Lourdes, 7-4, on May 17, 2016 in the NAIA National Championships Opening Round. Lawrence Tech is 4-0 all-time against the Gray Wolves dating back to March 29, 2017, and won a doubleheader at Pacesetter Park 10-7 and 11-4 in eight innings last year. This will be the Blue Devils' first home games in the series. Madonna holds a 13-1 series edge dating back to April 14, 2013. Last year the Crusaders won both games of the doubleheader, 4-0 and 11-3, in Livonia, Mich. Madonna is 6-1 all-time against Lourdes at Pacesetter Park.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes split a home doubleheader with Siena Heights on Wednesday, winning 8-5 before falling 10-2. On Thursday, the Gray Wolves dropped both ends of a twinbill at Rochester (Mich.) by scores of 3-2 and 7-3, and suffered the same result on Saturday at Northwestern Ohio, dropping games 6-1 and 3-1.
Scouting Cleary: The Cougars have won seven of their last eight games after sweeping Concordia (Mich.) 8-0 and 8-3 on Saturday. Kaitlin Dormire leads the team batting .410 with seven home runs and 27 RBI. As a team Cleary is hitting .289. The pitching staff sports a 3.19 earned run average, led by Natalie O'Reilly's 7-4 record and a 2.19 ERA.
Scouting Rio Grande: The Red Storm had their seven-game winning streak stopped in game two of a doubleheader against Point Park on Saturday. Rio Grande hosts Shawnee State on Monday prior to visiting Lourdes. On a team batting .287, Michaela Criner leads the way offensively with a .385 average, seven home runs, and 25 RBI. Kelsey Conkley leads the pitching staff with a 10-4 record and a 1.87 ERA, as Rio Grande's team ERA is 2.85.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the week having won three straight after sweeping Indiana Tech 5-1 and 2-0 in 11 innings on Saturday. Lawrence Tech hosts Siena Heights on Wednesday before entertaining the Gray Wolves. Sarah Hige is hitting a team-leading .443 for the Blue Devils, which are hitting .313 overall. Brittney Bult leads the pitching staff with an 8-3 record and a 1.54 ERA on a staff that sports a 1.86 ERA overall.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders had their four-game winning streak snapped with a game two loss to Aquinas on Saturday. Madonna visits Cornerstone and hosts Concordia (Mich.) before facing Lourdes. Kattie Popko is batting a team-high .489 with four homers and 31 RBI to pace an offense hitting .347 overall. Madisen Henry leads the pitching staff with a 2.48 ERA and an 8-7 record, as Crusader hurlers have a 3.06 ERA overall.

Making a Run at the School Mark: Marissa Kostick enters the week batting .416 during her senior season, the second best single season average in program history. The only previous Gray Wolf to hit better than .400 in a season (minimum 50 at bats) was
Alyssa Schaub, who hit .426 in 2015.
Streaking: Marissa Kostick had her team-long of a seven-game hitting streak and a 14-game on base streak snapped last week against Rochester (Mich.).
Erin Manley and
Alexis Nowowiecki now have the longest current active streak on the team, having each hit safely in four consecutive games.
Fielding Her Position: Tiana Card has been stellar defensively for the Gray Wolves this season, both fielding her position in the circle and at first base. Having faced 103 total chances, third most on the squad, she has yet to commit an error in the field.
Bats are Warming Up: Lourdes had at least seven hits in five of its six games last week after tallying more than six hits in just one of its previous eight contests. The Gray Wolves' team average rose 13 points last week to .253.
This and That: Marissa Kostick,
Shylee Schmeltz, and
Alyssa Ziegler have started every game this season ... the Gray Wolves have scored 22 of their 85 runs this season in the first inning ... game two of the doubleheader at Northwestern Ohio lasted just 1:19, the fastest game of the season.
