Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) homered in both games of Monday's doubleheader at Lawrence Tech, but Lourdes dropped but ends of the twinbill to the Blue Devils 4-1 and 5-3 at Buysse Field in Detroit, Mich.
Â
Her six home runs this season tie the school's single season record, and move her into a tie for second on the career list with 12 round-trippers.
Â
Lawrence Tech scored a pair of unearned runs in the second and added another in the third of game one, as the Blue Devils took advantage of four Lourdes errors in the contest.
Â
Kostick cut the deficit to two, 3-1, leading off the top of the sixth, but that would be all of the offense for the Gray Wolves in in the opener. The Blue Devils added a run in the bottom of the frame to secure the victory.
Â
Lourdes managed just three hits in the opener against Alexa Cherney, who went the distance, striking out nine, for the win. Kostick went the distance for Lourdes in game one, allowing just one earned run. She struck out six without walking anyone.
Â
Kostick homered in the top of the first of game two to put the Gray Wolves in front. The Gray Wolves took advantage of a Lawrence Tech miscue in the fourth on the way to plating a pair. A throwing error allowed Kostick to score from first on a fielder's choice and
Abby Cantrell (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) plated the second with a RBI single.
Â
Lawrence Tech (33-7-1, 15-5-1 WHAC) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three times, two of which were unearned. The Blue Devils then pushed across the two game winning runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Â
Kostick had two hits for Lourdes in game two as the Gray Wolves tallied five safeties in the contest.Â
Â
Lourdes (6-24, 2-16) returns home to Pacesetter Park on Thursday afternoon to host Madonna. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. with Senior Day activities taking place between games.
