The Lourdes university softball team suffered 9-6 and 6-1 setbacks to Aquinas on Saturday afternoon in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup at Pacesetter Park.

In the first contest, Aquinas (22-12, 5-1 WHAC) grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning.

Lourdes quickly got back into the game in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring two runs to get within 3-2.
Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) was able to drive a pair of runs home with a two-RBI groundout in the inning.

The Saints slowly extended their lead to 8-2 over the next four innings, scoring in the third, fourth and fifth frame.

Lourdes didn't go away as
Taylor Genzman (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) made her way home on a defensive miscue from Aquinas to cut the lead to 8-3 through five innings.

After holding the visitors scoreless in the top half of the sixth inning,
Kim Waters (Belleville, Mich./Lincoln) hit a single into the left center gap, plating
Allie Teeple (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg) and
Kayla Gauthier (Linwood, Mich./Pinconning) to get Lourdes within 8-5.

Aquinas added one more run in the top of the ninth to push the lead to 9-5, but the Gray Wolves used one last offensive effort to get back into the contest.
Shylee Schmeltz (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg) laid down an RBI-single for Lourdes' final run of the game as Aquinas held on for the victory.

Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles) went 2-for-3 at the plate, hitting two doubles to lead Lourdes offensively. Genzman and
Erin Manley (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford) each added two hits.

In the second contest, the Saints once again grabbed an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and the contests first three runs through three innings.

Lourdes was able to get on the board in the bottom half of the fourth inning as Kostick scored following a defensive miscue. The Gray Wolves threatened with runners in scoring position on multiple occasions but Aquinas scored three insurance runs late to close out the 6-1 victory.

Kostick led the offense in game two with a pair of hits.
Ashley Riley (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor) and
Tiana Card (Brook Park, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) combined for four strikeouts in the circle.

The Gray Wolves return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they host Siena Heights in a twinbill at Pacesetter Park.
