Amoo’s Second Half Goal Lifts Lourdes to Season’s First Win

Farouk Amoo (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood H.S.) scored in the 64th minute for the lone goal of the match as Lourdes picked up its first victory of the 2019 season on Tuesday evening, 1-0 against Ohio Christian at the Soccer Complex in Circleville, Ohio.

The victory also marked the first win Matt Johnson in his first season as head coach of the Gray Wolves.

"I'm happy with the win," Johnson said afterwards.  "I still feel that we can be much better in the attacking third creating chances and scoring goals."

After the two schools played a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Olawole Ogunsanya (Dallas, Texas/Arlington H.S.) sent a cross to Amoo from outside the box and the redshirt-junior finished for his first goal as a Gray Wolf.

Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fontainebleau (La.) H.S.) made eight saves in goal for his third career shutout, stopping four Trailblazer shots in each half.

The match was delayed 30 minutes early in the second half, just prior to the Lourdes goal, due to inclement weather.

Lourdes finished the match with an 18-10 shot advantage, including a 14-8 edge on goal.  Noah Murphy kept Ohio Christian (0-1) in the match, making 13 saves, including eight in the first half.

The Gray Wolves kept the pressure on throughout the match, earning 14 corner kicks while yielding just three on the night.

Lourdes (1-1) will return to Wildcat Stadium on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves host Indiana East in the team's home opener.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
