Goshen scored the lone goal of the match late in the first half on Wednesday evening as the Maple Leafs scored a 1-0 victory over Lourdes at the Ingold Athletic Complex in Goshen, Ind.

Lucas Bontreger scored with 6:15 remaining before halftime. Connor Wyse earned the assist, cutting in from the left and beating a Gray Wolf defender before passing the ball off to Bontreger for the tally.

All of the shots on goal in the match came in the opening 45 minutes, with Goshen tallying seven and the Gray Wolves registering three.

"We had stretches today where we played really well, but we need to take advantage of putting teams away when we have a chance," head coach
Matt Johnson said afterwards. "We had a good start to the match but we let them back in it and got punished."

Jorge Mendoza (Houston, Texas/Houston Heights H.S.) made six saves between the posts for Lourdes while Tomas Fonseca made three stops on his way to a clean sheet for the Maple Leafs. Overall, Goshen outshot Lourdes 11-8 for the night.

Josh Varney (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) registered two of the three shot attempts on net for Lourdes.

Goshen (1-4) finished the evening with a narrow 6-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Lourdes (1-3) will return home on Sept. 12 as the Gray Wolves host Andrews. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
