A goal with 5:40 remaining in the second half proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon, as Cornerstone notched a 1-0 victory over Lourdes in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener for both sides at Wildcat Stadium.
Â
"We are proud of the team's performance today," Lourdes head coach
Jackie Phillips said afterwards. "Unfortunately, it was not the result we wanted, but we're seeing growth with every game."

Â
The match remained that way until late when Sierah Adams picked up a loose ball and lofted a shot from 25 yards out that found the upper portion of the net.
Â
Lourdes had a chance for the equalizer in the final minute, but
Annah Zacerkowny's (Lasalle, Ont./Sandwich H.S.) shot from in close that beat the Cornerstone goalkeeper was saved by a Golden Eagle defender off the backline.
Â
The Gray Wolves finished with a 16-10 shot advantage, with shots on goal even at seven.Â
Kerstyn Williams (Taylor, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) made six saves in net for Lourdes while Mikayla Johnson made the same number of stops for Cornerstone (1-0, 1-0 WHAC).
Â
Lourdes ended the match with a 10-3 edge in corner kick opportunities as well.
Â
