Fourth-ranked Lourdes led two sets to one against Goshen on Wednesday evening, but the Maple Leafs rallied for a 17-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13 victory over the Gray Wolves inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"Give Goshen credit tonight, head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "They played to win and we played not to lose. They were very consistent throughout the match. We played a nice first set but didn't keep that level of execution the rest of the way."

The Gray Wolves came out quick, hitting .452 in the opening set with 17 kills and used a 6-2 run midway through the stanza to pull away for the wire-to-wire win. Goshen answered in the second with 14 kills and hit .353 while limiting Lourdes to a .105 clip in evening the match. The Maple Leafs led 17-13 before the Gray Wolves battled back to earn a set point at 24-23, but three straight points from the visitors closed out the set.

Lourdes rallied to win the third set after trailing 19-15. The Gray Wolves went on a 6-2 run to pull in front in a set in which Lourdes limited Goshen to just eight kills. The Maple Leafs capitalized on 14 Lourdes attack errors in the fourth set and never trailed, building a 15-9 lead on the way to forcing a decisive set.

In the fifth, Lourdes scored the first four points of the set, but Goshen answered with a 13-3 run to seize control and finish off the comeback. The Gray Wolves were limited to .050 hitting in the final stanza.

Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) led Lourdes with 20 kills and hit .240, but as a team the Gray Wolves swung at just a .170 clip with 38 attack errors.Â
Sawyer Schafer (Monroeville, Ohio/Monroeville H.S.) added 18 kills while
Henrique Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) handed out 54 assists to go along with 18 digs.

Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco H.S.) also had a double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs while
Harrison McBean (Melbourne, Australia/Northern College of the Arts) added 10 kills.Â
Guga Heidrich (Braco do Norte, Brazil/Colegio Unificado H.S.) tallied a match-high 21 digs as Lourdes finished with a 78-54 advantage in that category for the night.

Alexander Rabadzhiev had 19 kills, hit .318, and tallied 10 digs to lead Goshen (7-4, 2-1 WHAC). The Maple Leafs finished the night hitting .216 with just 15 total attack errors, and never more than four in a set. Goshen also outblocked Lourdes 12-4.

Lourdes (10-2, 2-1) returns to the road on Friday evening, as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle ninth-ranked Aquinas. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside of the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.
