Lourdes Downs Siena Heights at Home in Four Sets

Lourdes remains in first place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference standings after a 25-16, 23-25, 27-25, 25-17 victory over Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
 
"I thought we hit well in general, blocked well, and had played some sound defense around our block," head coach Greg Reitz said following the match.
 
The sixth-ranked Gray Wolves put down 69 kills in the four sets, hitting .322 as a team.  Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Brando H.S.) hit 449 with a match-high 23 kills while Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) added 18 kills.
 
Harrison McBean (Melbourne, Australia/Northern College of the Arts) added nine kills and hit .467 while Kevin Moore (Hollywood, Calif./John Francis H.S.) came off the bench in the third set to add seven kills while swinging at a .455 clip.
 
"Ricardo played really well for us today and Kevin gave us some emotion when he came in," Reitz added.
 
Henrique Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Brando H.S.) handed out 60 assists and added 14 digs for a double-double.  Gebert also had a double-double, added 14 digs while Guga Heidrich (Braco do Norte, Brazil/Colegio Unificado H.S.) had a match-high 22 digs.  McBean tallied eight digs.
 
Lourdes outdug Siena Heights 76-56 and held an 11-9 block edge.
 
Trailing 8-7 in the opening set, Lourdes scored the next five points to take the lead.  Another 7-2 run allowed the Gray Wolves to pull away and win set one.  In set two, Siena Heights led 18-13 before the Gray Wolves pulled even at 21.  The two schools traded sideouts until the Saints ended the match with back-to-back kills.
 
The Gray Wolves trailed 24-22 in the third before scoring three straight points to extend the set, ultimately taking advantage of an error by Siena Heights to secure the win.  Lourdes then hit .436 with 20 kills in the final stanza.  A 6-1 spurt allowed the Gray Wolves to push a one-point lead to a six-point edge to complete the victory.
 
Bryce Johnson led Siena Heights (13-7, 3-2 WHAC) with 11 kills while Emilier De Jesus registered 17 digs.
 
Lourdes (12-2, 4-1) returns to the road on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves travel to Southfield, Mich. to face Lawrence Tech.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ridler Field House.
