Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: Lourdes will open its eighth season of softball on Sunday, beginning its annual 12-game spring trip to Florida.  The Gray Wolves will face Florida National and William Penn on opening day, and play nine different schools during the trip.

Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her eighth season on the Lourdes bench, Jo Ann Gordon has a 89-179 (.332) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In her 18th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 241-467 (.340) career mark.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes is meeting Florida National, William Penn, and Carlow for the first time ever.  Saint Xavier is 3-1 against Lourdes dating back to March 10, 2014.  The Gray Wolves won the last meeting 4-3 on March 5, 2017 in Clermont, Fla.  Lourdes is 3-1 all-time against Hannibal-LaGrange.  The teams last met on March 9, 2018 in Leesburg, Fla., a 12-11 Gray Wolf victory.  Lourdes and Missouri Baptist have split two meetings in a series that began March 14, 2019.  The Spartans won 4-0 and the Gray Wolves 4-3 last season in Clermont.

Wrapping Up Last Season: Lourdes finished 2019 with a 6-28 record overall and a 2-20 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, tying for 11th place.  Marissa Kostick was named First Team All-WHAC as well as to the WHAC All-Defensive Team.

Scouting Florida National: The Conquistadors have dropped two of their last three games after falling to Michigan-Dearborn 5-3 on Sunday.  Gabryella Hay is batting .450 with three homers and 16 RBI while Natasha Trujillo is 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA in the circle.

Scouting William Penn: The Statesmen are still looking for their first win of the year after falling to Lyon 2-1 on March 1.  Avery Rayos is batting .333 with four RBI while Peyton Parker is 0-4 with a 7.43 ERA. 

Scouting Saint Xavier: The Cougars have won three straight games, but have been idle since Feb. 16 when they defeated Saint Ambrose 7-1.  Abbie Bailey is batting .533 with seven RBI while Jacky Holloway is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in the circle.

Scouting Carlow: The Celtics open their season on Sunday against Hannibal-LaGrange.  Carlow posted a 20-22 record in 2019.

Scouting Hannibal-LaGrange: The Trojans opened their season Feb. 28 falling in both ends of a doubleheader to Culver-Stockton.  Kendra Jacob is hitting .667 while Valeria Smith is 0-2 with a 12.41 ERA.

Scouting Missouri Baptist: The Spartans have been idle since Feb. 22 when they split a doubleheader with Saint Francis (Ill.).  Amber Mobbs is batting .333 with three RBI while Delissa Dennison is 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA in the circle.

Lourdes In Season Openers: Lourdes is 2-5 all-time in its season openers.  The Gray Wolves fell in their opener in 2019 to Saint Ambrose 10-2, and last won their first game of the season on March 5, 2017, a 4-3 victory over second-ranked Saint Xavier.  Lourdes has opened the season in Florida in six of its last seven seasons.

Returning In the Circle: Ashley Riley is the lone returning hurler for the Gray Wolves in 2020.  She appeared in 16 games, making five starts, as a freshman.  She is still looking for her first collegiate victory and posted a 4.93 ERA with 37 strikeouts.

Top Returning Hitter: Kayla Gauthier had the best batting average among all of Lourdes returnees last season, hitting .321.  She was second on the team with 12 runs batted in.

On the All-Time List: Kim Waters enters the season ranked eighth all-time at Lourdes (minimum 125 at bats) with a .302 career batting average.  She is also 10th with a .337 slugging percentage, and ninth with a .346 on base percentage.

New Faces: More than half of the Gray Wolves' roster has yet to see the field at Lourdes.  The Gray Wolves have 11 freshmen among the 21 players on this year's squad.

Facing a Ranked Foe: When Lourdes faces Saint Xavier on Monday, the Gray Wolves will be playing their 25th game all-time against a NAIA top-25 opponent.  The Gray Wolves are 1-24 all-time against ranked foes, with the lone win coming on March 5, 2017, a 4-3 triumph against second-ranked Saint Xavier.

This and That: The Gray Wolves are 33-50 all-time in neutral site games and 5-14 when playing extra innings ... Lourdes was slated to open the season Feb. 28 at home, but the games were snowed out ... the Gray Wolves will move to a new home this season, playing at Gray Wolf Field as part of the Lourdes/Northview Athletic Complex.
