Stefana Jelacic (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Chandler H.S.) won both of her bouts on Friday evening but Lourdes fell in dual meet action to sixth-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) 30-14 and second-ranked Campbellsville 43-3 inside of the Old Armory Building in Williamsburg, Ky.
Â
Jelacic, ranked second in the NAIA at 116 pounds, began her day with a 10-0 technical fall over Kaelynn Doughetry of Cumberlands.Â
Mari Romo (Houston, Texas/Foster H.S.) was credited with a forfeit win at 123 pounds while
Theresa Rankin (Grass Lake, Mich./Grass Lake H.S.) earned the same result at 130 pounds.
Â
The dual with Cumberlands was filled with forfeits at seven of the 10 weight classes.Â
Mattie Meek (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis H.S.) and
Akemi Garcia (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek H.S.) lost their bouts at 109 and 130 pounds respectively, each via fall.
Â
Jelacic picked up her second triumph of the day against Campbellsville. She won a 2-2 decision on criteria against third-ranked Charlotte Fowler in a battle of top-three ranked wrestlers in the country.
Â
Those would be the only points Lourdes would manage in the match. Campbellsville would register three technical falls, a pin, and five forfeit victories.
Â
"The girls had the opportunity to compete against a lot of ranked opponents tonight," head coach
Kate Hill said afterwards. "We were able to see a lot of areas that we can improve in before we face them again at the conference meet."
Â
Lourdes (0-3) will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 6, as the Gray Wolves travel to Marietta, Ga. to face top-ranked Life. The first bout is set for 3 p.m. inside of the Eagles' Nest.
