Lourdes Battles Michigan-Dearborn to a Draw on Senior Night

Lourdes celebrated its six members of its senior class on Saturday evening before battling the University of Michigan-Dearborn to a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Wildcat Stadium.

The draw was the fourth of the season for the Gray Wolves, who have yet to yield more than one goal in a match this season.

"Today was about playing and honoring our special seniors," head coach Jackie Phillips said following the match.  "These girls have been with us through the ups and downs and we are so proud of them all."

Prior to the match the Gray Wolves honored Olivia Pomponio (Brantford, Ont./Saint John's College), Sam Skujins (Waynesville, Ohio/Dayton Christian H.S.), Jules Snowden (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming H.S.), Cassie Stitt (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman H.S.), Katie Varney (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.), and Kerstyn Williams (Taylor, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.).

The Wolverines struck first with 11:11 to play before halftime as Emmi Pinkowski sent a pass into the box that Rena Arabi received and went one-on-one with the keeper before scoring in the lower corner.

Lourdes answered quickly, tying the match just 1:01 later.  McKenzie Klingensmith (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls H.S.) sent a corner kick into the box where Annah Zacerkowny (Windsor, Ont./Sandwich H.S.) got a head on the ball and scored her first goal of the year to even the contest 1-1.

Neither team would find the back of the net in the second half or the 20 minutes of overtime, despite Lourdes holding a 10-2 shot advantage over those final 65 minutes.  The Gray Wolves finished the contest with a 17-6 shot edge and earned all 11 corners in the match.

Williams made five saves in goal for the Gray Wolves while Amber Festian made 10 saves for Michigan-Dearborn (1-3-1, 0-2-1 WHAC).

Lourdes (5-1-4, 2-0-1) takes to the road on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Howell, Mich. to face Cleary.  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Lake Trust Stadium.
