Lawrence Tech Spoils Senior Day for Gray Wolves

Prior to Saturday's match, Lourdes honored its nine-member senior class, only to see Lawrence Tech spoil the festivities as the Blue Devils defeated the Gray Wolves 3-1 at Wildcat Stadium.

Garrett Baxley (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood H.S.), Ben Noud (Novi, Mich./Novi H.S.), Savio Adams (Cape Town, South Africa/Zeekoevlei), Farouk Amoo (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood H.S.), Olawole Ogunsanya (Dallas, Texas/Arlington H.S.), Robert Pereznegron (Channelview, Texas/Channelview H.S.), Cameron Poslaiko (Woodhaven, Mich./Carlson H.S.), Amin Elbashir (London, England/The Crest Boys Academy), and Jose Silveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Barao de Maua) were all recognized for their contributions to the Gray Wolf men's soccer program.

"Lawrence Tech is a dangerous set piece team, and they showed their quality in the first half," head coach Matt Johnson said following the match.  "We thought we had our best group on the field to defend them and they still scored three.  I loved the character we showed to fight back in the second half, even after going down a player.  However, it is a tough hill to climb behind down three goals and down a player."

The Blue Devils took the lead just 11:09 into the match.  Juan Jaramillo sent a restart into the box where Bryce Nicholson flicked it to Gonzalo Sanz who headed the ball into the back of the net.

Lawrence Tech (10-5, 6-2 WHAC) made it 2-0 in the 19th minute.  The same combination of Jaramillo and Nicholson started the play and Zane Arnold finished with the goal.

Just 1:41 later, Nicholson was on the finishing end of a goal.  Jaramillo again started it with Sanz drawing the assist.

The match stayed 3-0 Blue Devils into halftime with Lawrence Tech outshooting Lourdes 7-1.

The Gray Wolves were forced to play with 10 men for the final 27:10 of the match following a red card but continued to battle.  Federico Reali (Ceprano, Italy/Liceo Sulpicio) played a ball into the middle of the field that Adams collected and chipped over goalkeeper Marko Matovski from 30 yards out to put Lourdes on the scoreboard.

Lourdes continued to try to battle back but was unable to pull any closer.

Lawrence Tech outshot Lourdes 13-5 for the match.  Matovski made one save for the Blue Devils while Baxley had four stops in net for the Gray Wolves.

Lourdes (7-7-1, 2-5-1) will close out the home portion of the 2021 season on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.).  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
