Ninth-ranked Indiana Tech used a big third quarter to break open Wednesday evening's game on the way to defeating Lourdes 81-48 inside the Schaefer Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
"We battled hard in the first half, and they came out in the third and did what a nationally-ranked, experienced team should do, and they executed on every chance we gave them," head coach
Tandy Bradford said afterwards. "The fact that we won the fourth quarter shows we are taking pride in competing every night and that is what I'm loving about this team."
Lourdes led most of the first quarter until the Warriors closed the period on a 9-0 run over the final three minutes to take a 15-8 lead. The Gray Wolves pulled within four, 19-15, after a triple by
Winter Richburg (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.), with 8:31 to play before halftime before Indiana Tech responded with another eight consecutive points to begin a 16-3 run that pushed the hosts to a 19-point advantage. Lourdes answered with the final six points of the stanza, capped with a three by
Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.), to make it a 37-24 Indiana Tech lead at intermission.
Indiana Tech held the Gray Wolves without a field goal for more than eight minutes to start the third and used an 18-2 run to break the game open, pushing the lead to 32, 59-27, late in the period. Lourdes would outscore the Warriors 17-15 in the final quarter.
Pedroza led the Gray Wolves with 15 points while
Shallyn Miley (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan H.S.) added eight. Lourdes shot 27% from the floor for the game, including just 4-of-25 (16%) from three-point range. Miley also led the Gray Wolves on the glass with nine rebounds.
Emma Tuominen paced Indiana Tech (8-0, 3-0 WHAC) with 14 points while Kyra Whitaker added 12. Five Warriors finished the game in double figures.
Lourdes (3-4, 0-2) closes out its road trip on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Livonia, Mich. to battle Madonna. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. inside Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.
