Lourdes celebrated Homecoming on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 98-50 victory over Miami-Middletown inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) came off the bench to score 21 points while
McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield H.S.) added 18 more. Lourdes shot 54% from the floor on the evening and outrebounded the ThunderHawks 51-30. The Gray Wolves also turned 24 Miami-Middletown turnovers into 34 points.
"Overall, I was disappointed," head coach
Dennis Hopson said afterwards. "We didn't play efficient basketball and had 22 turnovers tonight. The only positive was that we shot 28 free throws and made 23 of them. This team can be a great team, but first we must become a consistent team."
Miami-Middletown (0-2) was within five, 21-16, with seven minutes to play in the first half before the Gray Wolves closed on a 23-8 run to build a 20-point halftime advantage. Lourdes continued to stretch its lead throughout the second half.
Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 14 points and
Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) chipped in 10 more.
Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary Catholic Central H.S.) pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
Jalen Brown came off the bench to score 14 points for Miami-Middletown.
Lourdes (2-0) will open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening battling Aquinas. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
