Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hot-Shooting Lourdes Wins at Notre Dame (Ohio)

Lourdes shot a blistering 60.4% from the floor on Monday evening and scored a non-conference road victory over Notre Dame (Ohio) 81-71 inside Murphy Gymnasium in South Euclid, Ohio.

The Gray Wolves outscored the Falcons 50-24 inside the paint and made 32-of-53 shots from the field overall.  Lourdes shot 65.4% over the opening 20 minutes.

"I'm excited we were able to win a big one on the road," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We did a better job of defending in the second half.  The biggest takeaway was the way we scored in the paint."

Trailing 25-23 midway through the opening half, Lourdes went on a 17-4 run to pull in front for good.  Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) drained a three-pointer with 4:46 to play before intermission.  The Gray Wolves would manage just one field goal the rest of the half though, and Notre Dame pulled back to within three, 42-39, at the break.

A quick six-point burst by Lourdes early in the second half allowed the Gray Wolves to push the lead to nine, 50-41, at the 17:26 mark.  The Falcons answered with a triple, but that six-point deficit would be as close as the hosts would get the rest of the game.  The lead grew to 11, 60-49, with under 13 minutes remaining and Lourdes would lead by as many as 12 in the second half.

Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary Catholic Central H.S.) led Lourdes with 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds while McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield Heights H.S.) was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor on his way to 17 points.

Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 15 points while Harris chipped in 12 more as four Gray Wolves finished in double figures.  Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) ran the office, dishing out eight assists.

Jaedon Willis led Notre Dame (5-2) with 25 points as the Falcons shot 43.8% from the floor overall but made 11-of-25 (44%) three-point attempts.

The Gray Wolves outrebounded the Falcons 35-25 and held a 20-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

Lourdes (7-3) returns home on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, entertaining Cornerstone.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
