Lourdes had four players tally double figures on Friday afternoon as the Gray Wolves bounced back from a Wednesday loss to defeat Lawrence Tech 87-63 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"After we woke up, we played with much more energy," head coach
Dennis Hopson said after the game. "We did a nice job of pounding people in the paint, scoring 46 points. We need to do a better job of knocking down shots from the outside after the kickout though."
Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) nearly had a double-double by halftime, finishing the game with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while
Julian Egbo (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) added 17 points and seven boards. The two combined to shoot 17-of-22 from the floor.
Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 16 points and
Khaire Williams (Detroit, Mich./Romulus H.S.) chipped in 10 points while
Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) pulled down 10 boards.
Lawrence Tech (5-8, 3-7 WHAC) led 24-22 with six minutes to play in the opening half when Lourdes clamped down defensively. The Gray Wolves did not allow a field goal over the final 6:06 of the stanza, closing the half on a 17-1 run to lead 39-25 at the break.
The Gray Wolves scored the first five points of the second half, continuing its run with another 15-6 spurt over the first six minutes of the stanza to push the lead to 23, 45-31, with 14:15 to play. Lourdes would not let the lead slip below 20 the rest of the way.
Lourdes shot 52.1% from the floor on the evening and committed just eight turnovers while the Blue Devils connected at just a 40.7% clip for the night. The Gray Wolves also held a 44-26 edge on the glass and turned a 12-4 offensive rebounding advantage into a 16-2 edge on second chance points.
Lourdes (8-4, 6-2) will take to the road to conclude the regular season, beginning on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle Indiana Tech. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside the Schaeffer Center.
