Lourdes saw the 2020-2021 season come to a close on Thursday evening as the Gray Wolves fell 92-73 to Madonna in the quarterfinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament inside Alliance Catholic Credit Union in Livonia, Mich.

The fifth-seeded Gray Wolves shot just 37.2% from the floor, including 22.7% (8-of-35) from three-point range on the evening. Fourth-seeded Madonna, meanwhile, shot a blistering 58.7% from the floor and made 10-of-22 (45.5%) triples.

"We struggled on both ends of the court," head coach
Dennis Hopson said after the game. "We didn't defend, and we couldn't make shots. It's been a tough year for everyone but I'm happy the kids got a chance to play some games."

The Gray Wolves were within two, 19-17, with nine minutes to play in the opening half following a three-pointer by
Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) before the Crusaders scored nine of the next 11 points to push the advantage to nine. Madonna slowly extended the lead the remainder of the half, taking a 39-27 lead into the locker room.

Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) with 17:46 to play pulled Lourdes back within nine, 43-34, but seven straight points by Madonna pushed the lead back to double figures, where it would stay the rest of the way.Â

Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 15 points while Anderson added 14. Snow had 13 points while
Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary Catholic Central H.S.) chipped in 11 points off the bench.

Lourdes had 21 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second chance points and outrebounded the Crusaders 39-37 for the night. The Gray Wolves also committed just five turnovers.

Henry Speight led Madonna (9-2) with 22 points while Devin Dunn added 20 more. Mark Mettie tallied a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards.

Lourdes finished the year with a 9-6 record overall.
